
Black Boys Code - After School Program
Role: Online Coding and Math Instructor (Ages 8-14)
Work Location: Remote

Salary: $25/hour
Learning Environment:
- Maintain a welcoming learning environment, promote inclusivity and respect for all students.
- Learning environment will primarily be Zoom; Online tools like Code.org, Scratch and Kahoot will also be used.
- Familiarization with office 365 tools (e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel) and teams is important.
- Tailor teaching strategies to accommodate a diverse group of students aged 8-14, ensuring engagement and accessibility in a remote setting.
Curriculum/Subject Delivery:
- Deliver student-centered lessons focused on coding and mathematics for students aged 8-14, utilizing interactive tools such as Kahoot to make learning exciting.
- Deliver the Black Boys Code curriculum in an engaging manner in an online setting.
- Cultivate and encourage virtual classroom discussions, actively encouraging participation.
- Provide personalized feedback and guidance to support students’ learning journey and assist them with challenges.
- Maintain regular communication with Virtual Producer to assess curriculum effectiveness and student satisfaction.
- Propose recommendations for improving the curriculum based on remote classroom experiences and student feedback.
Leadership & Mentorship:
- Inspire and empower students to envision themselves as future leaders in the tech industry in a virtual classroom.
- Demonstrate competence, and passion for science and technology, serving as a role model for students.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, sharing insights and collectively shaping an exceptional learning experience.
Technical Expertise:
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and other development tools like Scratch.
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals with the capability of teaching it in a simplified manner to students aged 8-14.
- Acquired or in the process of acquiring a degree in a STEM-related field.
Teaching & Mentorship:
- A genuine interest in teaching, with related experience in a remote environment.
- Ability to deliver the curriculum in an engaging and student-friendly manner, fostering active participation in an online setting.
- Enthusiasm, self-motivation, and a passion for igniting a love for coding in young learners, regardless of the remote format.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of facilitating positive interactions and promoting a collaborative online learning environment.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Additional proficiency with educational technology tools and platforms beyond the essentials, including features of Zoom, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Kahoot.
- Background or additional qualifications in educational technology, computer science education, or a related field.
- Previous experience or familiarity with the specific challenges and opportunities of remote instruction and distance learning.
