There's a real diversity gap in STEM fields. Our workshops expose young Black boys to Black male industry role models—living proof that success can be the norm rather than the exception. We show them that success in the computer and technology fields is a real and attainable option.

One of our core principles is to have Black males in the classrooms, so that the boys have the opportunity to learn from mentors that belong to their community, and have shared in their experiences. These men represent an opportunity for the boys to see a future for themselves in technology fields. If they can't see us, they can't be us.

We're excited about the upcoming launch of our Lon We're excited about the upcoming launch of our London, ON chapter this weekend! Meet the woman who will be leading the efforts in London.

Sandie Thomas has a number of years managing teams, and her true passion lies with serving the London Community. As a resident of London, Sandie has been working with the community for some time as a Mentor and Life Coach, and recently a Pastor and Chaplin. Sandie is also the founder of W.E.A.N. Community Centre.

Being an advocate for education and socioeconomics for the Black Community, Sandie has taken on the role of London Chapter Leader. In a world that is quickly changing, there is a great emphasis on working with technology in the workplace as well as life. Sandie would like to give the Black boys of London a greater opportunity to succeed in this new technology-focussed world.

Sandie feels that many boys in our community are not given enough opportunities to identify the skills and talents they possess to excel. They often don’t see a reflection of themselves in leadership roles or in the technology industry. As the Chapter Leader for the London area Sandie feels that she and her team can start to change that.

Sandie is looking forward to having her Chapter host their first workshop "mBlock: Creating Smart Objects through Code" on Saturday March 20th, 2021.

Sandie would also like to encourage more men of the community to volunteer and join the chapter team. If you're interested in volunteering with Sandie and the London team, please reach out at blackboyscode.ca/volunteer
