Black Kids Code (Girls) Brings The Future Of Technology To Toronto

In a big move to empower Black girls to skillfully take their place in the leading tech industries of tomorrow, Black Kids Code (Girls) launches a new chapter in Toronto/GTA.

Toronto, ON, June 21, 2023 – Today, Black Kids Code (Girls), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Black girls in the field of computer science, is thrilled to announce the launch of its newest chapter in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
After successfully providing transformative opportunities for Black girls in the Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver chapters, Black Kids Code (Girls) has responded to the widespread interest and demand to establish a presence in the city of Toronto. The Greater Toronto Area is home to Ontario’s largest population of young Black people, making the potential for digital literacy and technological advancement within Black communities undeniable.

Black Kids Code (Girls) offers Black girls rich experiences and thorough engagement with the newest technologies in the world of science. All lessons are held in safe spaces led by Black, female instructors who aim to open hearts, inspire minds, and equip their students with the skills and confidence needed not only to excel in the tech industry, but to create ripples of change in their communities and the world over for lifetimes to come.

“We believe in the limitless potential of Black boys and girls in our community,” says Bryan Johnson, Founder and CEO of Black Kids Code (Girls). “Through this new initiative in the GTA, we aim to empower and support Black girls as they embark on their journeys in technology. Our mission is to foster representation and opportunity, paving the way for their success stories.”
The Toronto chapter for Black Kids Code (Girls) will mark its launch with a workshop on June 24, 2023, at York University. Prior to the workshop, Founder and CEO, Bryan Johnson, along with supporting Black, female, technology professionals, will share their remarks.
Initiatives as bold and meaningful as this are only successful with the support of the community. The Toronto/GTA chapter of Black Kids Code (Girls) is currently accepting volunteer applications and exploring partnerships with like-minded organizations to support them in their efforts to engage and empower the young Black mind. This position is available to all who are passionate about mentoring, instructing, or otherwise supporting this community outreach initiative.
